Greek exports to Italy reached €5.24 billion in 2024, slightly lower than 2023 (€5.89 billion), while imports from Italy rose to €7.47 billion, up from €6.84 billion the previous year, according to an annual report released by the Greek Embassy in Rome.
Prospects for 2025 remain strong. In goods trade, notable opportunities for further growth exist in Greece’s agri-food exports, which already account for roughly 30% of total Greek exports to Italy. Because primary production is highly competitive with Italy’s—due to similar geography and product types—focus is recommended on promoting high-quality gastronomic products. These include wines from indigenous varieties, premium spirits, olives, honey, herbs and infusions, organic products, beverages, baked goods, mastiha, fresh fruits, nuts, fish, and PDO/PGI dairy and other certified products.
Participation in major food exhibitions in Italy is already increasing, with branded Greek food products attracting growing interest thanks to their high quality. Among other consumer sectors, Greek cosmetics and natural cosmetic ingredients show promising potential due to strong demand for high-quality products.
In 2024, one-third of Greek exports to Italy were agri-food products, while petroleum product exports accounted for 22.56%.
Key categories of Greek imports from Italy in 2024 included nuclear reactors/boilers/machinery (€1.1 billion), mechanical appliances (€706.15 million), vehicles (€424.5 million), plastics (€406.1 million), and mineral fuels (€362.8 million). Greece was Italy’s 17th-largest export destination, with a 1.2% share of total Italian exports, which amounted to €623.5 billion in 2024.
Italy remains one of the world’s top exporting nations—6th in exports and 11th in imports in 2024. Italian exports represent about one-third of the country’s GDP and strengthen the global “Made in Italy” brand, while inbound tourism continues to be the country’s strongest services revenue source.
Among the leading categories of Greek exports to Italy are mineral fuels, mineral oils, and related distillation products, valued at €1.184 billion and representing 22.56% of the total.
