Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed the ongoing farmers’ unrest during a Government Council on Economic Policy meeting, emphasizing the need for constructive dialogue.
Mitsotakis acknowledged the frustration among farmers, who have experienced delays in receiving subsidies. However, he highlighted that total agricultural payments for 2025 will reach €3.7 billion, up from €3.1 billion in 2024, representing an increase of €500 million.
The Prime Minister distinguished between farmers delayed by administrative cross-checks and those ineligible for subsidies, noting that the government aims to resolve legitimate cases promptly.
Regarding the recent road blockades and demonstrations, Mitsotakis said: “We are always open to structured dialogue. Extreme actions do not help their efforts. We have met farmers’ requests in the past and continue to do so.”
Authorities continue to monitor protests while encouraging farmers to engage through official channels to ensure their grievances are addressed without disrupting public order.
