Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on a visit to Evia, repeated that Greece’s next general election will be held in the spring of 2027, and set out a target of a third consecutive term in power for New Democracy with a parliamentary majority of its own, rather than in coalition.
“I want you battle ready for the elections that will take place in the spring of 2027,” he told party members. He added: “We don’t stop. And we don’t wait, like some others, for the campaign season to commence, to support our fellow citizens and be there for them. We are here, we are present, we tackle problems effectively and we support local communities.”

The Prime Minister thanked preemptively party officials for the electora campaign they will wage when the time comes. New Democracy has been in power since 2019 and won its second majority in 2023.
Five years after the fires
Taking stock of the government’s record in northern Evia, five years after the wildfires that tore through the island in the summer of 2021, Mitsotakis said the commitments made at the time are being fulfilled. “Five years after the catastrophic fire in northern Evia, we look to the future with more optimism,” he said, adding that the government had gotten to grips with the problems the fire left behind. He argued the area has recovered, with more tourist traffic, stronger growth, lower unemployment and higher incomes. “We speak with our work and not with words,” he said.
Health system pledge
Earlier, speaking from the health center in Istiaia, a town in the north of the island, he linked the reconstruction of northern Evia to a broader promise on health care. Resources from the EU Recovery Fund, the post-pandemic financing package Greece has drawn on heavily, are being invested in upgrading the National Health System (known in Greek as ESY), according to the Prime Minister.

“ESY is changing,” he said. “At the end of this four-year term we will deliver the best National Health System the country has had.”
