Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis posted a TikTok video on Tuesday outlining the government’s new rent reimbursement program, which he said will benefit nearly 900,000 tenants.

“Starting today, almost 900,000 renters will see one full month’s rent returned to their bank accounts,” Mitsotakis said, adding that the measure is permanent and made possible by the country’s improving economic performance.

According to the prime minister, eligible tenants will receive up to €800, with an additional €50 for each child. The amount can reach €1,600 for families covering the cost of student housing.

Mitsotakis urged tenants to declare their actual rental payments to ensure they receive the full compensation owed.

Housing affordability, he said, remains a major challenge — particularly for young people. “This is the least we can do,” Mitsotakis noted. “We are making every possible effort to support all citizens, especially those who need it most.”
