Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to visit Athens on Sunday for a one-day series of meetings with Greece’s political leadership. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, along with Greece’s president, during a trip whose precise timing remains undisclosed because of security concerns.
Although Greek authorities have not publicly detailed the purpose of the visit, the Kyiv Independent reported that Zelensky is expected to travel to Greece “to sign an agreement in the energy sector,” citing a source close to Ukraine’s Presidential Office.
Zelensky’s first stop in the Greek capital is expected to be the Presidential Mansion, before he continues to the Maximos Mansion for talks with the prime minister. Later in the day, he is also slated to meet with the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament. Officials have noted that both the arrival and departure times will remain confidential until the last moment.
The visit will be Zelensky’s second to Athens in recent years; he previously traveled to the city in the summer of 2023, when he met with Greece’s former head of state.
Zelensky’s upcoming European travel schedule includes additional stops. He is expected to be in Paris on Monday, according to an official source. On Tuesday, Nov. 18, he will travel to Madrid for meetings with representatives of the Spanish Parliament. A source from the Spanish prime minister’s office confirmed the visit, though no further details have been released. The website of the Spanish Congress notes only that he will meet with the presidents of the two chambers.
