Traffic has been diverted creating significant congestion toward Western Macedonia, as large numbers of Greeks have departed Athens ahead of the Easter holiday.

The northern lights were visible across many parts of the Northern Hemisphere, and even Greece, due to a severe (G4-level) geomagnetic storm.

A rare red aurora was reported across the night sky of much of northern Greece, Bulgaria and Italy, as earth experiences a strong geomagnetic storm that causes the northern lights to travel unusually far from the north pole
