A disturbing case of juvenile extortion has been uncovered in Amaliada, western Greece, where a 12-year-old boy was threatened and coerced into handing over more than €8,000 to a 14-year-old classmate.

According to police, the extortion began on 6 November, when the older boy started threatening to beat the 12-year-old unless he gave him money. The younger student, unable to cope with the escalating intimidation, eventually revealed the situation to his parents.

The family had handed over a total of €8,250 in an effort to protect their child.

Following a police investigation, officers searched the 14-year-old’s home, where they found a high-end mobile phone, a gaming console, and 100 firecrackers believed to have been obtained with the extorted funds.

The teenager was arrested, and his mother was also taken into custody on charges of neglecting the supervision of a minor.
