Greek police have arrested a 22-year-old man who turned himself in to authorities in Athens and confessed to his involvement in the double murder in Foinikounta, a seaside town in southern Greece.

According to police sources, the man claimed that he had been sexually assaulted by the 68-year-old victim when he was 19. He also alleged that the victim had attacked him twice in the past. The suspect stated he had occasionally approached the victim to ask for money due to financial hardship.

The 22-year-old said he acted alongside another man of the same age, describing himself as a passenger and accomplice to the main perpetrator, who remains at large. He denied that there was any moral instigator behind the crime, insisting that the two men acted alone.

Police had already identified both suspects on Sunday, confirming that they are both residents of Kallithea, in Athens, and not originally from Foinikounta. An arrest warrant for the second suspect is expected to be issued by the prosecutor.

Earlier, the young man arrived voluntarily at the Athens Police Headquarters (GADA), telling officers he had knowledge of the brutal killings at the Foinikounta campsite. Initial reports suggested he might have been related to the 68-year-old victim, the owner of the campsite, but it was later confirmed that there was no family connection.

The suspect is currently being questioned by the Homicide Division, accompanied by his lawyer. His testimony is expected to clarify his role in the case that has shocked the region of Messinia.
