A 27-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her partner in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, on Sunday night, August 16, 2026, according to police.
Residents of the apartment building where the couple lives heard shouting and called police to report a possible domestic violence incident.
The woman’s 29-year-old partner reportedly told officers that the incident had been a verbal argument. However, when police arrived, they found the woman with scratches on her arms and neck, a black eye and an injury to her forehead.
The couple was taken by police patrol car to the Kalamaria Police Department.
In her statement, the 27-year-old said she did not remember what had happened inside the apartment and did not file a formal complaint. The 29-year-old denied the allegations.
Case proceeds without complaint
The case does not depend on the woman filing a complaint. Authorities have opened a criminal case against the 29-year-old, and proceedings are continuing ex officio, meaning authorities can pursue the case without a formal complaint from the victim.
