A hostage situation in the Greek city of Larissa has shocked the public after a 50-year-old man  held his former wife captive inside her home and broadcast the incident live.

Footage from the incident shows the man appearing to hold an axe and a container with flammable liquid, while repeatedly saying he was determined to set the house on fire.

The incident began when the man entered his ex-wife’s residence. Police officers launched negotiations that lasted several hours, while a friend of the man also helped convince him to surrender.

The standoff ended without injuries, with the man eventually giving himself up to authorities.

According to initial information, the incident was triggered by a court order preventing him from having contact with his children.
