A 19-year-old foreign national was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2026, at Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos, according to a statement by the Drug Enforcement of the Organized Crime Directorate.

The suspect is believed to be a member of a transnational criminal group involved in smuggling cannabis into Greece by air. The operation was part of targeted checks aimed at preventing the importation of narcotics into the country.

With the assistance of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Katerini Sub-Directorate for Crime Investigation and following verifications, cross-checks and data analysis, authorities identified and apprehended the suspect upon his arrival from abroad.

Following a search of his luggage, law enforcement officers uncovered and seized 15.5 kilograms of unprocessed hydroponic cannabis (skunk), packaged in 30 nylon parcels. Police said the drugs were intended for further distribution.

A mobile phone was also confiscated. The suspect was taken before the competent public prosecutor for further proceedings.
