Arms Smuggling Ring Supplying Turkish Crime Groups Busted

Police arrested two suspects after uncovering an alleged weapons trafficking network and seizing 25 untraceable “ghost guns” believed to be destined for criminal organizations operating in Turkey

Authorities have dismantled an alleged arms smuggling network in northeastern Greece that was involved in the illegal import and distribution of firearms intended for criminal groups from Turkey.

Two people were arrested during a police operation targeting the suspected trafficking ring.

According to police, officers intercepted a vehicle carrying one of the suspects and discovered a travel bag in the trunk containing 25 pistols. The firearms, along with their magazines, were individually packed in transparent plastic wrapping.

Investigators said the weapons bore no manufacturer markings or identifying information, classifying them as so-called “ghost guns” that are difficult to trace.

A second suspect was also arrested and is accused of providing both the vehicle and the weapons to the driver who was stopped by police.

During the operation, authorities seized:

  • 25 pistols
  • 25 magazines
  • Five mobile phones
  • Two SIM cards
  • The vehicle allegedly used in the trafficking operation
