A major police operation took place on the morning of Thursday, August 20, in Roma settlements in Aspropyrgos, aimed at preventing and addressing illegal activity, including electricity theft.
During the checks, 16 people were arrested in total, while 2,380 meters of cable used for illegal electricity connections were removed.
According to police, the 16 arrests were for electricity theft. Case files were compiled for each and submitted to the relevant prosecutor’s office.
A crew from the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) removed a total of 2,380 meters of cable. According to authorities, the cables were being used for illegal connections and power theft.
During the checks, 16 cases of electricity theft from homes were identified.
At the same time, officers recorded 18 traffic code violations, including driving without a license, not wearing a seatbelt, and lacking a valid roadworthiness inspection (KTEO).
In addition, four vehicle registrations and seven driving licenses were confiscated.
The operation was organized and carried out by the Western Attica Police Directorate of the Attica General Police Directorate.
Officers from several units took part, including the Western Attica Crime Detection and Prosecution Subdivision, the Attica Police Operations Directorate, along with forces from the Motorcycle Police Unit (OPKE), the OPDI unit, and the DIAS team. The Attica Traffic Police Directorate and an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) also assisted in the operation.
