Police carried out an operation on Sunday afternoon, July 26, at a seaside woodland area in Elaia used by unofficial campers, resulting in 18 arrests.

The operation was organized by the Narcotics Enforcement Department of the Kalamata Subdivision of Drug Enforcement and Crime Investigation, with support from police units including the Crime Prevention and Suppression Teams (OPKE), the Prevention and Mediation Teams (OPDI) of Messinia, and officers from the Trifylia and Gargalianoi police departments.

During separate checks, officers arrested 18 people aged between 22 and 71. Authorities filed cases against them, depending on the circumstances, for violations of drug laws, radio frequency regulations and legislation concerning unauthorized free camping.

Drugs and Equipment Seized

During the operation, police seized:

  • 41.60 grams of raw cannabis;
  • 4.5 grams of processed cannabis, known as “hashish chocolate”;
  • Three homemade cannabis cigarettes;
  • Seven pharmaceutical tablets for which no required medical prescription was available;
  • Two radio communication devices.

Police also recorded nine violations of the Greek Traffic Code during the checks.

The arrested individuals are expected to appear before the relevant judicial authorities.

Police said targeted operations will continue as part of efforts to prevent illegal activity and strengthen citizens’ sense of security.
