Greek authorities are pressing ahead with the installation of new traffic cameras at high-risk intersections across Attica, with road safety and accident reduction as the primary objectives.
The program places particular emphasis on red-light violations, one of the most dangerous infractions under the Greek Highway Code and a leading factor in serious road accidents.
The latest expansion targets the coastal road, following earlier installations near Floisvos Park. Four dual red-light detection systems have now been placed on Poseidonos Avenue in the direction of Voula, at Fleming Square, providing full coverage of the junction and recording violations in real time. The cameras have already been spotted by drivers and flagged on navigation apps, including Waze.
Running a red light carries a €700 fine and a 60-day driving licence suspension. Repeat offenders within a five-year period face a €1,000 fine and a six-month suspension, while a second repeat offence can result in a penalty of up to €2,000 and licence revocation of up to one year.
