Athens faced severe flooding on Friday morning as Storm Adel brought heavy rains, hail, and intense thunderstorms across the city. Authorities closed sections of Poseidonos Avenue due to water accumulation, and residents in areas such as Moschato were forced to cross flooded streets using makeshift carts.
Traffic Disruptions
The Traffic Police announced the closure of the left and middle lanes of Poseidonos Avenue near the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, heading toward Piraeus. Commuters were advised to avoid the area as traffic congestion reached critical levels across Athens’ main roads.
Flooded Streets in Moschato
At the Moschato station of the Athens Suburban Railway (ISAP), floodwaters turned roads into rivers. Residents were seen boarding municipal utility carts to safely reach the opposite side, highlighting the severity of the flooding in urban areas.
