Temporary service restrictions will be introduced on Athens Metro Line 2 from Sunday, March 15, with four central stations closing significantly earlier than usual during overnight hours to allow for track replacement and 5G network installation works.
According to operator STASY, the affected stations — Omonia (Line 2), Panepistimio, Syntagma (Line 2) and Acropolis — will close at 21:40 from Sunday through Thursday each week, two and a half hours earlier than the normal end of service. The restrictions run through Monday, March 23.
Syntagma station will remain open for Line 3 services between Dimotiko Theatro and the airport, and Omonia will continue to serve Line 1 between Kifissia and Piraeus.
During the works, Line 2 trains will operate on two separate segments: Anthoupoli to Metaxourgio in the west, and Elliniko to Syngrou-Fix in the south.
To bridge the gap between Metaxourgio and Syngrou-Fix stations, Athens transport authority OASA will operate temporary bus route X16 from 21:40 until the end of Metro service, running Sunday through Thursday. Stops in the direction of Syngrou-Fix include Metaxourgio, Omonia, Panepistimio, Syntagma and Acropolis. In the reverse direction, the route serves Metaxourgio, Omonia, Plateia Klafthmonos, Syntagma, Acropolis and Fix.
