Athens Metro: New Tracks 25 Years After Its Inauguration

The overall project is budgeted at 7.3 million euros and with a competition timetable until late 2026

The Athens metro system is set to proceed with the first major upgrading since it opened some 25 years ago, namely, a replacement of 32 kilometers of the system’s tracks on lines 2 and 3. The project covers roughly half of the tracks, and corresponds to the first portions of the metro

The overall project is budgeted at 7.3 million euros and with a competition timetable until late 2026.

A relevant contract worth 4.84 million euros was signed on Thursday at the transport ministry between the state-run operator of fixed rail transports in the greater Athens-Piraeus agglomeration, STASY S.A., and the consortium Leonardos Rigas Technical S.A.

A similar upgrade on rail tracks in the network’s depots, worth 2.44 million euros, is already underway
