Athens’ iconic Herodeion, the ancient open-air theater located near the Acropolis, will remain closed for the next three years following the conclusion of the 2025 Athens Festival.

The closure is part of a series of essential maintenance and restoration works aimed at preserving the structure, which has suffered wear over centuries. The project is being overseen by the Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities under Greece’s Ministry of Culture.
