The Municipality of Athens has announced the reopening of the outdoor swimming pool located within the Goudi sports complex, welcoming back athletes, residents, and visitors from Thursday, 8 Jan. 2026.
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas said the pool is returning “safe, fully functional, and accessible to everyone,” noting that coordinated efforts and systematic work have restored public access to a key sports facility.
He stressed that operations will fully comply with all safety regulations and the strictest health protocols. “We continue to invest in infrastructure that is not only functional but also sets quality standards, with a steady commitment to supporting mass participation in sports and promoting athletic education,” Doukas said.

Eleni Zontirou, President of the Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization (OPANDA), emphasized that health and safety have been the top priorities from the outset.
The swimming pool, located at the OPANDA sports facilities at the intersection of P. Kanellopoulou and Kokkinopoulou streets, has been granted an operating license valid for five years, until 31 Dec. 2030.
In its statement, the Municipality of Athens noted that the outdoor pool is once again being handed over to the city’s athletes and sports clubs “as a vital space for physical activity, as well as a unique meeting point for wellness and recreation for all ages.”
