A road rage incident in Athens escalated into violence Tuesday afternoon when two drivers clashed over right of way, leaving both injured and prompting a police investigation.
The altercation occurred around 3:10 p.m. at a busy intersection in the city. According to initial reports and video footage, a 51-year-old motorcycle delivery driver and a 70-year-old car driver became involved in a heated argument that quickly turned physical.
In the footage, the younger man is heard shouting, “You almost killed me,” before stopping his motorcycle moments later and checking his left arm, where he had been stabbed. Authorities said the injury was not serious.
The confrontation then escalated further, with both men engaging in a fistfight in the street.
Police later found a knife with a 9-centimeter blade in the possession of the 70-year-old driver. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and remains under guard.
The 51-year-old delivery driver has been detained and is expected to appear before a prosecutor.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances and causes of the incident.
