Traffic on the Attica tollway, the main ring road serving the Athens metropolitan area, will face temporary closures and diversions on March 6 and 7 due to urgent maintenance work, Greek police announced.
Authorities will fully close a section of the highway heading toward Athens International Airport between 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. on both nights. The closure will take place near the Fyli interchange, about 19 kilometers along the roadway, within the municipality of Fyli in western Athens.
The restrictions are required for maintenance work on the roof of the overpass at the Fyli interchange.
During the closure, vehicles traveling from Elefsina toward the airport or the town of Markopoulo will be diverted at the Fyli exit (Exit 6). Drivers will pass over the interchange’s overpass and then re-enter the Attica Highway toward the airport through the eastern Fyli toll station.
Police are urging motorists to drive carefully in the area, follow posted road signs and plan their routes in advance to avoid delays.
The Attica Highway is one of the busiest transportation routes in the Athens region, linking western suburbs with the airport and eastern parts of the greater metropolitan area.
