Greek police arrested a 24-year-old Australian national on Thursday night at Athens International Airport, following the issuance of an international warrant for his arrest. He is accused of involvement in a fatal shooting and subsequent arson attack in Australia in October 2023.
The man is alleged to have taken part in a violent incident at a shopping center, where he and three accomplices reportedly approached two individuals and opened fire at close range. One of the victims was killed, and the other was seriously injured.
Following the attack, the group fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, which was later found burned—an apparent attempt to destroy evidence and hinder authorities from tracking their movements.
Arrest and Extradition Proceedings
Greek authorities, acting on intelligence about the suspect’s movements, apprehended him at Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. He was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect has already been brought before a public prosecutor, who will initiate the legal proceedings required for his extradition to Australia, where he is expected to face trial for murder and arson.
