The death of a 61-year-old man in a bizarre incident involving a bear in a remote mountain range of northern Greece has been attributed to his fall from a gorge. The incident occurred at the Fraktou Forest in the uplands of Drama prefecture.

At the same time, press reports on Wednesday claimed that an autopsy report said no evidence of a bear attack or presence was not detected on the victim.

The man’s death was instantaneous.

Meanwhile, other reports later stated that video seen on the victim’s cellphone show images of a wild animal, a conversation between two men, one of which was the victim, a raucous, and one man telling the other to use pepper spray, as well as dog barking.

A funeral and interment were held on Wednesday, with friends and relatives gathered for a “last goodbye” for the ill-fated mountain climber.

In a social media post, the other man, who according to reports, climbed a tree to avoid the bear and then called authorities, wrote:

“I’m in shock, and I need time to recover. Theories (about the incident) should stop,” he said, calling on all parties to respect the family of the victim.
