A baby is being treated at a hospital in Athens after suffering serious burns from hot tea in an accident at a café in the port of Mytilene on the island of Lesvos.
According to public broadcaster ERT, the incident occurred on Saturday when a 20-year-old waitress accidentally spilled a tray of hot tea onto the infant, who was sitting in a stroller next to its parents.
Emergency airlift to Athens
The child was immediately taken to the Mytilene General Hospital, where doctors provided first aid. However, due to the severity of the burns, doctors decided the baby should be airlifted to Athens for specialized medical treatment.
The infant is now receiving intensive care and continuous monitoring from a team of pediatric specialists. Hospital officials have not released further details about the child’s condition.
Waitress arrested and released
Police detained the 20-year-old waitress shortly after the incident. Following the order of a prosecutor, she was released pending further investigation. She faces charges of causing bodily harm through negligence under Article 314 of the Greek Penal Code.
