Bakery Worker Laid to Rest After Fatal Workplace Accident

A 49-year-old bakery owner who died in a tragic machinery accident in central Greece will be buried today, as grieving relatives describe the moments leading up to the fatal incident.

The funeral of a 49-year-old bakery owner who died in a tragic workplace accident will be held today in the village of Damasi in central Greece. The woman, identified as Zoe, lost her life on Thursday when her scarf became entangled in a dough mixer while she was cleaning it.

According to the medical examiner, the scarf acted as a noose, leading to fatal strangulation. A customer arriving early in the morning to buy bread discovered her unresponsive inside the bakery.

Relatives spoke of their shock and disbelief. “We can’t process it. They tried CPR, the paramedics came, but we couldn’t save her. Thirty years… a mistake, a terrible moment,” said her close family friend, describing the victim as a devoted mother of two who had spent decades running her bakery.

Her aunt recounted the final moments before the accident. Zoe had been working with her sister shortly before the incident. After her sister left, Zoe continued preparing bread. “She leaned over the mixing cylinder, and she was wearing a scarf because of neck pain. It wasn’t long hair or anything like that,” her aunt explained.

The tragedy has deeply shaken the local community, which knew the 49-year-old as a hardworking woman dedicated to her craft. She was laid to rest at noon at the Church of Saint Tryphon in Damasi, where family, friends and residents gathered to say their final farewell.
