Authorities were alerted early Friday morning when a car plunged into the sea at Piraeus Port, one of Greece’s busiest maritime hubs. The incident occurred at Gate E8, raising immediate concern for the driver’s safety.

The driver, a 69-year-old man, miraculously managed to exit the sinking vehicle on his own and swim safely to the dock. Rescue teams from the Coast Guard arrived promptly, providing first aid and ensuring the man’s condition was stable. He was then taken to the Central Piraeus Port Authority for a precautionary check-up and was confirmed to be in good health, requiring no further medical attention.

According to reports, the driver had gone to the port to pick up his wife from a ferry traveling from Crete to Piraeus. Authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances that led to the vehicle ending up in the water. Plans are underway to recover the car using a crane-equipped vessel.
