Unknown suspects attacked a police station in central Athens on Sunday evening with firebombs.

According to reports, a group of five or six individuals approached the building, in the central Kypseli district, just before 8 p.m. local time and threw at least seven makeshift firebombs (“Molotov cocktails”) at the precinct’s entrance.

No injuries were reported, only material damages to an unmarked police car. The same suspects are believed to have set fire to a metal garbage can in a nearby intersection.

The specific part of the inner-city district is among the most densely populated and congested in the wider Athens-Piraeus area.

Some 24 hours earlier, 19 people were arrested for disturbances during a protest march on the anniversary of a teen’s killing by a special police guard in December 2008.
