Greek authorities are continuing their search for a young suspect, possibly a minor, in connection with the double murder at a campsite in Finikounda, Messinia. The victims, one a 70-year-old Greek national and campsite owner and the other an Albanian employee, were fatally shot outside the campsite reception.
According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), witnesses report that a single assailant committed the killings. The suspect reportedly spoke broken English and initially requested a room at the campsite, which was refused before he opened fire.
The victims had no prior criminal history, aside from a minor incident a month earlier when the owner was lightly injured by an air rifle. Authorities note that the earlier attack may have been a warning, but no threats were officially reported to police at that time.
Eyewitness accounts indicate the suspect fled on foot and may have later used a motorcycle, though these details remain under investigation. Police are attempting to collect video footage from nearby cameras, though this has proven challenging.
The mayor of Pylos-Nestor, Panagiotis Karvelas, confirmed that the campsite owner was well-known locally and that the crime occurred around 8:30 PM. He noted that the suspect approached the owner and the site’s long-time caretaker, fatally shooting both men.
A homicide unit has been deployed to assist in the investigation, as authorities continue to piece together the suspect’s movements and motives. Officials have emphasized that the killings do not appear to be related to robbery.
