Earthquake Damage Leaves 15 Homes Unsafe in Evia

Inspections in northern Evia following recent earthquakes have identified multiple damaged homes, as authorities assess losses and begin the process of providing financial assistance to affected residents

Fifteen homes have been classified as “yellow” following inspections carried out by teams from the General Secretariat for Natural Disasters Recovery and State Support (GDAEFK) in areas of northern Evia affected by recent seismic activity, according to an announcement from Greece’s Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

Since the morning, two four-member GDAEFK teams, operating under the coordination of the General Secretariat for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid, have conducted inspections in several communities which focused on determining the extent of the damage and initiating recovery and government assistance procedures.

During the inspections, authorities examined homes, business premises, and public buildings that sustained damage in order to determine whether they remain suitable for use.

Inspection Results

In Prokopi, six homes were classified as “green” (suitable for use) and eight as “yellow” (requiring repairs before they can be safely occupied).

In Dafnousa, four homes were classified as “green” and four as “yellow,” while in Spatharaioi Kalyvia, four homes were deemed “green” and three “yellow.”

In total, inspectors have recorded 14 “green” homes and 15 “yellow” homes.

In addition, one commercial building in Dafnousa was classified as “yellow,” while two public buildings in the same area were deemed “green.”

Next Steps and Support for Residents

At the same time, authorities have launched the process for registering affected residents and submitting applications for financial assistance to replace damaged household belongings.

Inspections will continue over the coming days with the aim of completing the damage assessment and activating support measures as quickly as possible.

According to the ministry’s announcement, GDAEFK teams are working in continuous cooperation with the Municipality of Mantoudi–Limni–Agia Anna and the Region of Central Greece to ensure the fastest possible recovery process and effective support for the affected communities.
