A Condor flight from Corfu to Düsseldorf made an emergency landing in Brindisi, Italy, after one engine caught fire shortly after takeoff.

A passenger aircraft carrying 250 people was forced into an emergency landing after one of its two engines caught fire shortly after departing Corfu, Greece.

The Boeing 757-300, operated by German airline Condor, took off from Corfu International Airport around 8 p.m. local time on Saturday, bound for Düsseldorf, Germany. At approximately 1,500 feet, its right engine burst into flames and was shut down by the pilots.

Loud Explosions Over Corfu

Video footage captured the moment the engine erupted in flames and emitted explosions as the plane flew over the island. Residents and tourists near Corfu’s harbor reported hearing a deafening noise.

Despite the incident, the captain chose not to return to Corfu, assuring authorities that the aircraft could continue flying with a single functioning engine. The plane executed a right turn, circled the island, and then headed northwest at altitudes between 6,000 and 8,000 feet.

Safe Landing in Italy

The flight eventually landed safely at Brindisi Airport in southern Italy, with no injuries reported among passengers or crew.
