Greece’s National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an urgent weather warning as severe conditions are set to affect several regions across the country. The alert, upgraded to orange, signals potentially dangerous weather starting Thursday evening.
According to EMY, rainfall and thunderstorms currently affecting western and northwestern Greece are expected to intensify overnight. On Friday, heavy rain and storms are forecast for the Ionian Islands—including Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Kefalonia, and Ithaca—as well as the regions of Aetolia-Acarnania and Epirus. Conditions are expected to gradually ease late Friday night into Saturday.

Weekend Forecast:
- Saturday: Western and northern regions will see increased cloud cover with intermittent rain, and storms in the Ionian, Epirus, and western mainland may become locally strong. Other areas will have scattered clouds and occasional showers, including Thessaly, eastern mainland, and parts of the Peloponnese and Aegean islands.
- Sunday: Rain continues in the west, while northern areas, the eastern Aegean, and Crete will experience increased cloud cover with localized showers. Snow is likely in the mountainous regions of Epirus and Macedonia.
- Temperature Trends: Temperatures will drop slightly in the west on Saturday and more significantly across the country on Sunday and Monday. Expected highs range from 21–23°C in most areas, reaching 24–25°C in the Dodecanese and northern Crete.
Winds and Other Conditions:
- Southern and southwestern winds will blow at 4–6 Beaufort, reaching up to 8 Beaufort in the northern Aegean on Friday. Winds will gradually ease from Sunday.
- African dust will continue to affect central and southern Greece, particularly in outdoor areas.
