Fast Ferries Cancels Rafina Sailings Amid 24-Hour Seamen’s Strike

Fast Ferries cancels all Rafina routes on July 3 amid a 24-hour seamen’s strike over safety concerns and port infrastructure limits on Friday, July 3 in Greece today.

Ferry operator Fast Ferries has announced the cancellation of all scheduled departures to and from the port of Port of Rafina on Friday, July 3, as a 24-hour nationwide seafarers’ strike brings maritime traffic to a halt.

The company attributed the disruption to the industrial action called by maritime unions, which it said has intensified amid warnings that operating conditions at the port have reached unsafe levels due to insufficient infrastructure.

According to the announcement, all itineraries of the passenger–vehicle ferry FAST FERRIES ANDROS are suspended. This includes routes from Rafina to Andros, Tinos, and Mykonos, as well as the return voyage from Mykonos. The vessel’s afternoon service is also cancelled.

Similarly, sailings scheduled for the passenger–vehicle ferry AIKATERINI P from Rafina to Paros, Naxos, Mykonos, and Tinos will not operate.

Passengers holding tickets are expected to be notified in due course through the company’s communication channels.

The strike action, running from 06:01am on Friday, July 3, until 06:00 am on Saturday, July 4, has been called by the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PENEN), the Panhellenic Union of Merchant Marine Engineers (PEMEN), and the STEFSENSON Union of Lower Engine Room Crews.

A protest gathering is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. outside the ferry vessel SUPER FERRY. The unions argue that the port of Rafina is operating beyond safe limits, citing inadequate infrastructure to handle the growing volume of maritime traffic. They note that the port has only five berthing positions while up to eleven vessels are served daily, raising concerns over congestion and operational safety.
