A 70-year-old woman was rescued from the sea after being caught in strong currents while swimming in the Rio–Antirrio area in western Greece.

The incident occurred during a ferry service in the area, when the vessel’s crew noticed that the woman was in difficulty and unable to return to shore.

Following instructions from the Greek Coast Guard, the passenger and vehicle ferry Antonios M. ferry, which was operating on the Rio–Antirrio route, changed course and headed toward the location to assist with the rescue.

The crew’s immediate response allowed the woman to be safely pulled from the water and transported back to land. She received first aid and underwent a medical check-up.
