Judicial authorities on the Greek island of Zakynthos have released under conditions the father of a 14-year-old student who caused alarm after bringing a handgun to his school.

The man appeared before a prosecutor and an investigating judge on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, following the incident in which the teenager reportedly showed the weapon to classmates, triggering concern among students and staff.

After the father’s testimony was completed, the prosecutor and judge jointly decided that he could be released pending further legal proceedings, provided he complies with specific restrictions. These include a ban on leaving the country and a requirement to report to his local police station every 15 days.

The handgun has been confiscated and is currently in the possession of the police. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine how the minor gained access to the firearm and whether any additional responsibilities or violations may be identified.
