Family, friends and public officials gathered on Thursday to bid a final farewell to Vagia Nestora, who died following an arson attack on the apartment building where her family lived in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki.

The funeral service was held at the Church of St. Nicholas in the city of Kozani, with burial taking place afterward at the local cemetery.
In an emotional moment, Nestora’s daughter, Afroditi, attended the service after being transported to the church by private ambulance. Still recovering in hospital from injuries sustained in the attack, she chose to leave temporarily in order to say goodbye to her mother, carrying a bouquet of white flowers.

Among those attending the funeral were Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis, as well as representatives from left-wing political parties.
Nestora lost her life after the arson attack on the residential building in Thessaloniki, an incident that shocked the country and left several members of her family injured.
