The funeral of Vagia Nestora, the mother of New Democracy Candidate Afroditi Nestora, will take place Thursday, in Kozani. Nestora lost her life following an arson attack at their home in Thessaloniki, which injured her husband, her daughter and several other residents.
Relatives and friends of the Nestora family, along with members of Greece’s political world, are expected to attend the funeral, including Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis.
According to reports, Afroditi Nestora, who is currently hospitalized at Papanikolaou Hospital’s plastic surgery unit with serious burns, wishes to attend her mother’s funeral. Although doctors have determined that she cannot be discharged from the hospital due to serious burns on her legs that prevent her from standing, she is determined to sign the necessary documents and travel to Kozani to say goodbye to her mother.
In her post announcing the funeral service, Nestora wrote: “It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that the funeral service for our beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, Vagia Nestora, will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., at the Church of Saint Nicholas in Kozani. The burial will follow at the Saint George Cemetery in Kozani.”
The family also requested that, instead of wreaths, donations be made the association “Orama Elpidas” (“Vision of Hope”), which supports children with serious illnesses.
