The body of a young female bear was discovered near the Stavropotamos settlement in the northwest prefecture of Kastoria this week, with veterinarians reporting that the animal was shot to death.
The development marks the fourth dead bear found in the area over the past three months, three of which were also shot, according to an announcement on Wednesday by the environmental group Callisto.
An autopsy showed that the animal was shot five times in the back.
Another dead brown bear was found last Tuesday, with the local forestry service briefed over the incident.
The organization said the young female bear was a lactating, with an effort launched to locate and rescue any young cubs roaming in the forest.
Bears in Greece are fully protected as an endangered species, and their habitats are also protected.
