A 27-year-old German man has been remanded in custody pending trial after appearing before an investigating magistrate in the city of Heraklion over the violent assault of his 25-year-old former partner at a hotel on the large Greek island of Crete.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including felony offenses, in connection with the attack, which took place on the evening of July 11 in the resort area of Ammoudara, near Heraklion.

Allegedly Tracked Victim Through Digital Apps

According to investigators, the suspect traveled from Germany to Crete after locating his former partner through digital applications.

Although the couple had ended their relationship some time ago, authorities say a digital connection between their devices remained active. Investigators believe this enabled the suspect to determine the woman’s whereabouts.

The 25-year-old was on holiday in Heraklion with a 19-year-old friend. According to the case file, the suspect pinpointed the hotel where she was staying after she ordered food through an online delivery app and he received a related digital notification.

Attack at the Hotel

Prosecutors state that the 27-year-old went to the hotel in Ammoudara and entered the room unexpectedly through the pool area.

He is accused of first attacking the 19-year-old companion before violently assaulting his former partner, leaving her injured.

Guests at the hotel reportedly alerted police after hearing the disturbance. The woman was taken to Heraklion’s Venizeleio Hospital for medical treatment.

Arrested Shortly After

The suspect had left the hotel before officers arrived, but police later located him at the accommodation where he was staying and arrested him.

Following his testimony before the investigating magistrate on Thursday, authorities ordered that he remain in pre-trial detention while legal proceedings continue.
