The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) has issued a red weather alert due to a prolonged and dangerous heatwave expected to last until Monday, July 28. The emergency weather bulletin has been upgraded to a warning for hazardous weather conditions.
According to the latest update, Greece will continue to experience exceptionally high temperatures over the coming days, with only northwestern regions expected to see a break from the heat by Sunday afternoon. A broader cooling trend is forecast for most areas starting Monday.
Persistently High Temperatures
Minimum nighttime temperatures are expected to remain elevated, particularly in urban centers, where they may not drop below 28–29°C. These conditions are raising concerns about heat stress and the increased risk of wildfires.
From Friday, July 25, through Saturday, July 26, strong northerly winds of 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale are expected, especially in the eastern parts of the country and over the Aegean Sea.
