Greece is set for a change in weather, with rain and isolated thunderstorms expected in several parts of the country over the next two days, followed by a gradual drop in temperatures.
On Wednesday, conditions will remain generally clear, although temporary cloud cover will develop over western and northern mainland areas from midday. Local rain or showers are expected mainly in mountainous areas of Epirus, Macedonia, Western Central Greece and possibly Thessaly and the Peloponnese, with isolated thunderstorms also possible.
Weather conditions will also favor the transport of African dust across western Greece.
Temperatures will reach 34 to 36 degrees Celsius across mainland Greece and locally in the Ionian Islands, the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese. Temperatures will locally reach 36 to 37 C on the mainland.
Elsewhere across the islands, temperatures will range from 30 to 34 C.
Northerly winds will reach 3 to 4 Beaufort in the west and 4 to 6 Beaufort in the east.

Macedonia and Thrace: Thrace will remain generally clear, while Macedonia will see temporary cloud cover from midday, with local rain or showers mainly in mountainous areas and isolated thunderstorms possible. Conditions in Central Macedonia will remain unsettled overnight. Temperatures will range from 19 to 34 C, locally reaching 35 C.
Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Central Greece and Western Peloponnese: Generally clear conditions will give way to temporary cloud cover during the afternoon over mainland areas. Local rain or showers are expected mainly in mountainous areas, with isolated thunderstorms possible in Epirus, Western Central Greece and possibly the Peloponnese. Temperatures will range from 22 to 35 C, locally reaching 36 to 37 C.
Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece, Evia and Eastern Peloponnese: Mostly clear, with temporary afternoon cloud cover over mountainous areas. Local rain or showers are expected in the mountains, with isolated thunderstorms possible in Thessaly, Central Central Greece and Central Peloponnese. Conditions in Thessaly will remain unsettled overnight. Temperatures will range from 20 to 36 C, locally reaching 37 C.
Cyclades and Crete: Generally clear, with northerly winds of 4 to 6 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 22 to 31 C, locally reaching 32 to 33 C in Crete.
Eastern Aegean islands and Dodecanese: Clear conditions with northerly winds of 4 to 6 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 22 to 35 C, locally reaching 36 C.
Attica: Generally clear, with north-northeasterly winds of 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort in eastern areas. Temperatures will range from 23 to 36 C.
Thessaloniki: Generally clear, with temporary cloud cover during the afternoon and local rain or showers mainly in surrounding mountainous areas. Cloud cover may increase again in the evening, bringing local rain or showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms. Winds will be variable at 2 to 3 Beaufort, shifting south during the afternoon at the same strength. Temperatures will range from 21 to 33 C.
Rain and cooler temperatures arrive Thursday
On Thursday, September 3, increased cloud cover will initially affect Western and Central Macedonia and Thessaly before spreading gradually to other mainland areas. Local rain or showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, mainly in mountainous areas, with conditions improving from the evening.
Elsewhere, the weather will remain generally clear.
Northerly winds will reach 4 to 5 Beaufort in the west, locally 6 Beaufort in the northern Ionian Sea, and 4 to 6 Beaufort in the east, locally reaching 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.
Temperatures will fall slightly, particularly in western and northern Greece.
Further cooling expected Friday
On Friday, September 4, a few clouds will become temporarily more numerous, initially in eastern Greece and later in northern mainland areas during the afternoon. Local rain or showers are expected, while isolated thunderstorms are possible in Eastern Macedonia and the Peloponnese.
The rest of the country will remain generally clear. Visibility will be locally reduced in western areas during the morning.
Northerly winds will reach 3 to 5 Beaufort in the west, locally 6 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea, and 5 to 6 Beaufort in the east, locally reaching 7 Beaufort in the Aegean.
