Greek Activists From Gaza Flotilla to Arrive at Israeli Port

Greek authorities say participants in the Global Sumud Flotilla are expected to undergo identification procedures before receiving consular assistance and being repatriated as quickly as possible

Greek citizens taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla mission are expected to arrive at Israel’s Port of Ashdod within the next few hours, according to Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking during a briefing for diplomatic correspondents, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lana Zochiou said the participants would undergo identification and registration procedures upon arrival at the port.

She also announced that Greece’s ambassador will visit the location on May 21 to provide the citizens with all necessary consular assistance.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will ensure that every form of consular support is provided and will work to expedite the repatriation process as quickly as possible,” Zochiou said.

According to the spokesperson, the ministry has already made diplomatic representations to the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of the Greek citizens involved. Officials are also maintaining direct communication with the participants’ relatives and family members.

Zochiou stressed that Greece expects full respect for international law and for the dignity and rights of its citizens.

While reports suggest that 19 Greek nationals may be involved in the flotilla mission, the spokesperson noted that the figure has not yet been officially confirmed and will be verified during the registration process.
