High-Speed Chase in Athens: Two 20-Year-Olds Arrested After Police Officer Injured

A dramatic police chase on Athens’ Kifisos Avenue early Sunday (September 7) ended with the arrest of two 20-year-old men after one of them rammed a police officer, causing serious injuries.

The incident began when officers from the Organized Crime Unit spotted two high-performance cars racing at high speed near Agioi Anargyroi. Despite police signals to stop, the drivers accelerated, ran multiple red lights, and continued toward the suburb of Peristeri.

When officers blocked the vehicles and approached on foot, one driver attempted to escape. He hit an officer with his car, throwing him onto the opposite sidewalk. The injured officer was rushed by ambulance to the 401 Military Hospital.

One driver was arrested on the spot along with three passengers. The second, identified later near the Hilton hotel, was taken into custody shortly after 7 a.m. Police confirmed he is the son of a well-known businessman.

Authorities filed charges including attempted homicide, assault on law enforcement, dangerous driving, and resisting arrest. A search of the suspect’s home uncovered an air pistol with a magazine, gas cartridges, pellets, and his vehicle.
