Injured PAOK Fans Arrive in Thessaloniki After Romania Crash

Two survivors of the fatal road accident in Romania were transferred to a Thessaloniki hospital amid emotional scenes, as health officials pledged full medical support for their recovery

Two PAOK football supporters who survived a tragic road accident in Romania returned to Thessaloniki on Thursday, where they were admitted to Papageorgiou General Hospital for further treatment. The crash claimed the lives of seven young fans, deeply affecting the club’s community and the wider public.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., ambulances from Greece’s national emergency medical service transported the injured men from Thessaloniki’s Macedonia Airport to the hospital, following their repatriation on a specially arranged medical aircraft. The operation began early in the morning, with the aircraft departing from central Greece and flying to Timisoara, where the patients had been hospitalized.

The plane landed in Thessaloniki at 1:10 p.m., after which the transfer to the hospital took place under police escort. Emotional scenes unfolded on arrival, as relatives and friends waited with flowers, visibly moved by the survivors’ return.

The two men were first taken to the emergency department for medical examinations and will remain under short-term observation before being admitted to the appropriate hospital wards. A third survivor remains in Romania, where doctors determined that surgery was necessary before any transfer could take place.

Present at the hospital were senior health officials, including representatives of the regional health authority and the hospital administration. Speaking to the media, a senior health official expressed deep sympathy for the families of the victims and assured that the hospital is on full medical alert, with all necessary specialties available.

“We will provide the best possible support and care to the injured,” he said, wishing them a swift and full recovery.
