Authorities have cracked an armed robbery in Kifisia, carried out against an elderly man in early May, with a haul exceeding €100,000.
A 51-year-old man, the victim’s nephew, has since been arrested in connection with the case. He is accused of orchestrating the robbery together with an accomplice.
The two men had lain in wait in the underground garage of the residence, ambushing the 77-year-old victim as he was returning home in his car. Wearing full-face balaclavas, they immobilized him at gunpoint, forced him to open his safe, and made off with €100,000 in jewelry and cash. The victim was also bound with zip ties before the perpetrators fled the scene in a rented vehicle.
From the outset of the investigation, officers who had gathered video surveillance footage concluded that the perpetrator was someone from the victim’s inner circle. They ultimately managed to trace the rented car used in the robbery, which led them to make the arrest. The suspect has since been placed in pre-trial detention. His accomplice has not yet been located by police.
