A violent armed robbery in a northern suburb of Athens has left a 77-year-old man shaken after two masked intruders ambushed him outside his home and stole valuables worth approximately €100,000.

The incident took place as the elderly man was returning to his residence during the afternoon. According to local accounts and video footage obtained by television network MEGA, the victim was briefly seen walking near his property before heading toward an underground parking area.

Moments later, the two attackers struck. Waiting in concealment, they quickly overpowered the man, restraining him and forcing him into the basement of the building where a safe was located.

Carefully Planned Break-In

The assailants, described as wearing masks and appearing well-prepared, carried out the robbery in a rapid and coordinated manner. They tied and gagged the victim before accessing the safe in the basement.

They escaped with cash and jewelry estimated to be worth around €100,000. The operation lasted only a short time before the perpetrators fled the scene.

Neighbors reported hearing nothing unusual until police activity began in the area. One resident described the moment the alarm was raised, noting that the victim had earlier greeted people in the neighborhood shortly before the attack occurred.

Victim Found by Daughter

The 77-year-old was later discovered bound and gagged by his daughter, who immediately alerted the authorities. He was found to be physically unharmed but deeply shaken by the ordeal.

Local residents expressed concern over the level of organization behind the robbery, suggesting the attackers appeared to have prior knowledge of the victim’s routine and the presence of valuables in his home.

Authorities are now reviewing security camera footage in an effort to track the suspects’ movements and identify their escape route. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the robbery but the attackers had already disappeared.
