Websites across the globe as well as popular services such as ChatGPT, Canva, and Spotify appear to have recovered after being down for several hours on Tuesday following an outage by network services and cybersecurity provider Cloudflare.

Dozens of sites in Greece, including news sites, as well as global sites such as X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT, and Downdetector, went offline following the Cloudflare blackout.

In a status update later in the day, Cloudflare admitted it was experiencing widespread errors.

“Cloudflare is aware of, and investigating an issue which impacts multiple customers: Widespread 500 errors, Cloudflare Dashboard and API also failing. We are working to understand the full impact and mitigate this problem. More updates to follow shortly.”

The company said it was experiencing an internal service degradation. “Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate,” it said.

Several weeks ago, glitches with Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s internet infrastructure division, impacted some 3,900 companies and services, including Snapchat and Reddit, and more than 16 million people worldwide in a massive crash.

The Cloudflare network handles approximately one-fifth of web traffic.
