A fire that broke out Monday morning (June 15) at an auto parts shop on Ionias Street in Menidi has been brought under control.
Six fire trucks and 18 firefighters initially responded to the scene, with reinforcements arriving shortly after. Municipal water tankers also assisted in the operation, as thick black smoke blanketed the area and there was a risk the fire would spread to neighboring businesses.
The shop was completely consumed by the flames, with tires, spare parts, and vehicles on the premises destroyed entirely. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The owner of the business sustained a minor burn to his hand and drove himself to the hospital as a precaution to receive medical attention. Meanwhile, an EKAV (National Emergency Medical Service) crew provided first aid to a firefighter who experienced respiratory distress during the firefighting operation.
The heavy smoke from the blaze was visible from multiple areas across Attica.
Due to the fire, Greek Police implemented traffic restrictions in the wider Menidi area. Specifically, traffic was temporarily halted on Ionias Avenue near the Attiki Odos overpass, at the intersection of Orfeos Street and Ionias Avenue, and at the intersection of Kyprou and Athanasios Bosdas streets.
