Greece is experiencing its last major heatwave of the summer, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 42°C in several regions, including Attica, on Thursday and Friday. The heatwave, though intense, is forecast to be short-lived, with relief expected from Saturday onwards.

According to meteorologists, areas most affected will include Fthiotida, Viotia, Attica, Argolis, Arcadia and Laconia, where conditions may briefly reach peak levels of 41–42°C. Despite the high temperatures, winds will remain relatively mild, though authorities warn that fire risk may increase in some areas.

On Thursday, temperatures are expected to reach 37°C in eastern mainland Greece, while islands such as Crete, the Dodecanese and parts of the eastern Aegean will see highs of 34–35°C. By Friday, the heat will intensify, pushing conditions to their peak.

Regional forecasts show Athens reaching up to 35°C on Thursday before climbing higher, while Thessaloniki will see temperatures up to 33°C. Other parts of the mainland will face similar conditions, with the heat most pronounced inland.

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) confirmed that the weekend will bring gradual cooling, with noticeably lower temperatures from Sunday. Until then, residents and visitors are advised to take precautions against the heat.
