A mother and daughter were found in an advanced state of decomposition in an apartment, specifically in a room whose door had been sealed with cement.
Complaints filed by relatives with the police were what led to the discovery of the two female bodies in the Zografou area, which has shocked public opinion since this morning.
“We hadn’t seen them for a month and a half — two months”
According to neighbor testimonies, the two women, who were found in a state of decomposition, had not been seen in the neighborhood for at least a month and a half.
One neighbor stated: “A month and a half? Two months? It struck us as very strange because we didn’t see them. We assumed they were probably hospitalized somewhere. But my friend, the neighbor on the ground floor, was telling me about a month and a half ago that he was getting an unpleasant smell. And we were wondering what was going on.”
“Who knows what happened for something so otherworldly to be found”
The same neighbor added, speaking to orangenews.gr: “We learned that some relatives, out of concern, tried to open the door to check on their family members, their niece etc. No one would open up; Things escalated on Saturday and Friday, when relatives called the police. The police came on Saturday, or maybe it was Friday, and then again this morning. They requested a prosecutor’s order. Who knows what happened for something so disturbing to be found.”
A Family Tragedy
Employees at a food shop directly across from the women’s home also gave revealing testimony: “We had an informal connection because the daughter used to come here, have a cheese pastry, drink a coffee. She wasn’t doing very well. We’d heard she had cancer and was running to doctors, and that her brother, a tall young man from the neighborhood, had various psychological problems. He didn’t usually go outside. The grandmother was mobility-impaired and elderly. The daughter would sometimes take her for a walk or bring her here to the café for an orange juice.
According to witnesses, the elderly woman, the mother, was over 80 to 85 years old, while her son was around 50 to 55.
“Constant Arguments”
“They’ve lived here for many years. It’s their own apartment. According to the neighbor who lives next to them on the ground floor, there were constant arguments. […] People would ring his bell to give him bills. He didn’t easily open the door. He was generally difficult to communicate with. The daughter did go out, though. On my walks I’d run into her on the street, we’d say good morning, or she’d come here and have a coffee and then go back home.”
How It Was Discovered
The apparent family tragedy in the Zografou apartment came to light when police, following complaints from relatives, went to the apartment. At first no one answered, and they later returned with a prosecutor present. Upon entering, they found the “cemented” door, and after breaking through it, discovered the two bodies in an advanced state of decomposition.
The Forensic Investigation
The son and brother of the two women, who also lived in the apartment, was taken in for questioning and is currently awaiting the results of the forensic investigation which the police and prosecutor had launched earlier today.
